Town Hall: Renaming James Blair

An event to discuss the renaming of a school tied to the legacy of slavery

Hi everyone,

This Thursday at 6:30 PM EST, the Village Initiative—a Williamsburg-based nonprofit—will host a town hall at the Stryker Center to discuss our campaign to rename James Blair Middle School.

I’ll be sharing findings from my recent report on the school’s history and that of its namesake, James Blair, and his role in institutionalizing slavery. My co-organizer, Mary Lassiter, will also speak about our campaign to rename Magruder Elementary in York County, which is named after a Confederate general.
